Beyond the Bridge – Issue #1

By

Let’s go Beyond the Bridge — this is your portal to strange worlds, hidden dangers, and the unknown. If you’ve read Knocked: Into Another Dimension, you already know how fast reality can fracture. If not, buckle up — you’re about to get a taste.

A snippet from the first chapter…

“Okay. Let’s go,” I said, but Michael didn’t wait for me to say the final word before he climbed down as fast as he could carefully descend. He stopped suddenly as his necklace caught on a protruding metal footing.
I followed fast to reach him when the harshest, brightest light I’ve ever encountered appeared below me.

Time appeared to slow down.

I decided instantly to chase after him. I let go to fall to him, to fall through the hole to grab him – to save him.

With the force of a bat to the head, the ground knocked me out.

Beyond the Bridge

When I was a kid, I used to climb the high-tension power lines behind our house and wonder what would happen if you could travel via the lines to anywhere you wished. That thought stuck with me for years, and it’s what shaped Knocked and the opening scene. It evolved into a multiverse story, when I thought of how the electricity could contribute to the interdimensional traveling, and was inspired by the idea of a thunderstorm creating lightning to open a Bridge to another dimension.

And truth be told? I’ve always loved Rick and Morty. The wild inventions, the portals, the way science gets twisted into absurd storytelling — all of that seeped into my imagination. The Draw Bridge, my own imagined device for cracking open new dimensions, grew out of that mix of unease and fascination.

Recommended Reading

When I decided to write a multiverse story, I wanted to see what was out there first. These stood out:

  • Dark Matter — Blake Crouch. A life split into countless paths, and the fight to reclaim the one that matters most.
  • Outland — Dennis E. Taylor. Parallel worlds, looming disaster, and a crew that laughs in the face of apocalypse.
  • The Quantum Curators — Eva St. John. A secret organization plucks priceless artifacts from alternate realities, but every choice ripples across universes.
